Name Changes
At their March 2005 board meeting, the Board of Directors of FRM
voted to approve the adoption of the name Heights Christian Schools
for our 3 elementary and 1 junior high school. The name "Heights"
has already become known in the community through our La Mirada
campuses. We believe that using the name for all the elementary
and junior high schools will help people recognize our campuses
as FRM campuses and see that we are a growing Christian school
system. Full use of the name will be implemented over the next
year. This is a challenge that we look forward to with great excitement.
Our New Pride and Joy
On February 3rd, a new preschool building was dedicated on our
La Mirada Heights campus. This new building houses 4 preschool
classes. Each day 84 children come ready to learn about Jesus
and anxious to learn more about the world they live in. Their
colorful artwork covers the walls of their rooms and their joyful
voices can be heard on the beautiful new playground as they burn
up typical preschooler energy.
Sonrise Christian Day Camp
Every summer, each of our elementary schools provides summer fun
and supervision for children going into Kindergarten through 6th
grade. Sonrise Christian Day Camp has activities geared to each
grade level along with caring, experienced, counselors and staff. Each summer our theme will encourage the children to grow in ways that will honor God while they're having a fun and active summer! Registration begins each spring. If you would like a registration form mailed to you, please contact the individual school office and they will gladly send it out to you. See our "Schools" page for locations and contact information.
"I've Got a Pulse!" The Miracle of Julianna
FRM is proud to acknowledge the heroic efforts of our Heights
Christian Junior High Principal, Mr. Rol Esslinger. On Friday,
February 25, junior high student, Julianna Bohlen was running
laps with her classmates during P.E. when she suddenly fell to
the ground unconscious. Mr. Esslinger was summoned and when he
realized that Julianna's heart had stopped and she was no longer
breathing, performed CPR until the paramedics arrived. Mr. Esslinger
said it seemed like an eternity until they heard the words of
the paramedic, "I've got a pulse!" You can imagine the
rejoicing that took place, as each person involved had been praying
intently for Julianna. We are also grateful for P.E. teachers,
Miss Rouwenhorst and Mr. Carrigan for their quick response and
assistance during this time. Julianna is now doing fine and back
at school thanks to our Heavenly Father and the quick action of
Mr. Esslinger. On April 4th, firemen and paramedics joined the
students and staff to celebrate Julianna's life and to thank the
dedicated emergency personnel who came to the rescue that day.
God is truly working in the lives of our staff and our students. As an added note, on October 24, Miss Rouwenhorst, Mr. Carrigan and Mr. Esslinger were honored at the 2005 Volunteers in Action Awards Ceremoney for the City of La Mirada. They each received the Medal of Valor award for their actions on February 25. Congratulations to all three!
